2022 marked a milestone in the history of Compass Church. Ten years previously we had moved to Wellingborough to help plant a church that followed the Bible in its teachings, that was genuine in its relationships and that would lead people back to God. We didn’t know anyone in the town and we began with church services in our living room in July 2012, with the children’s Sunday School in the kitchen!
We chose the name Compass Church because a Compass is a navigational tool used for direction-finding.
As a Compass needle is drawn to ‘true North’, the Church is called to light the path to the truth, to Jesus. Our prayer was that many would find ‘the way’ here at Compass Church, and that as a community of believers we would help to keep each other on the Lord’s path.

September 2012, ten years ago, we celebrated our official opening weekend with street church in the town centre followed by an evening worship service and our first official Sunday service at a local secondary school.
Some visitors joined us for that service, Ian & Wendy Askew, and received a prophetic word over them from Colin Cooper. This began our journey with Ian & Wendy who later became a part of the Eldership of the church.

After a few months hiring the Secondary School we moved into an old Bingo Hall in the town centre, we set to work tearing out the bingo tables and setting up what we thought would be our permanent base for Compass Church, but God had other plans!
After receiving short notice of the termination of our rental agreement we found ourselves searching for a new venue to meet in. By this time many people had joined the family of Compass Church and together we set off on a journey which led us through many venues over the next ten years…a function room in a Health & Fitness Centre, a sports hall at a Christian Outdoor Adventure Centre, another Secondary School hall and of course online via Facebook & Zoom during the pandemic, and finally to the Theatre in our town centre once again.
All throughout this time we continued to pray and to search for a permanent building for our church that we could call home. We met with many obstacles along the way; potential building opportunities rose up many times but all were met with a dead end. But we knew that God was in control. And all this time the church grew steadily and healthily, and the people truly learnt that Church is not a building, Church is us! God’s people!

Finally in August 2022 we were granted planning permission by our local council to change the use of a commercial office building into a place of worship. And we set to work moving in, knocking down walls and getting the building ready to use.

On the 24th & 25th of September 2022 we had a double celebration. We thanked God for 10 amazing years of Compass Church, for His provision and guidance and of course His faithfulness. We also celebrated the official opening of our new building. We cut the ribbon and declared the building officially open! We have a ten year lease on this building, and so we are excited to see all that the Lord will do over the next ten years of Compass Church.
Although we have arrived at this point in our church history...the building is open...the rooms are ready to use, we know that it is not time to put our feet up and rest. There is much work to be done in building God’s Kingdom and we have our sleeves rolled up and are ready to get stuck in!
